In 2015/16, the CHDA, in a partnership with Emonti Incubators, established a community livestock project in Bilatye where the Bilatye/ Mkhonjane Co-operatives would be assisted with the establishment of an operational piggery gacility, accomodating 400 growers per breeding cycle.
Key aspects of the initiative included the refurbishment of the existing building to accomodate the planned operations going forward. The CHDA provided financail support towards the refurboshment of the building, renovation of the interior and exterior, as well as fencing. In 2016/17, the technical partner would be assisting with placement of animals, feed and skills transfer to the community.
A total of 185 beneficiaries are expected to benefit from this initiative.
